A 15-meter section of the famous 800-year-old bas relief wall at Banteay Chhmar in Cambodia has collapsed due to unusually strong winds during a storm, leading GHF to undertake emergency intervention.
Before Collapse After Collapse

The immediate needs are:

We would like to thank the Prince Claus Fund for Culture and Development for supporting the efforts of restoring the wall through its Cultural Emergency Response program.

We would also like to thank Mr. William Reller for providing matching funding to get the project started.

1. Building a temporary shelter next to the collapsed zone to protect the area.

2. Surveying, recording, and scanning the fallen stones to see what emergency and/or temporary repairs must be undertaken on the stones.

3. Carefully storing the fallen stones into a secure shelter prior to the monsoon.

4. Setting up emergency propping of adjacent standing
parts of the wall to prevent further collapses.
