Ciudad Perdida, Colombia

A “Lost City” of Unique Architectural Form

Ciudad Perdida is in need of a comprehensive Site Management Plan for its future protection.

Scientific conservation includes mapping of indigenous sacred sites, Ciudad Perdida itself and other major Tayrona sites of the Upper Buritaca. Conservation activities are focused on the site of Ciudad Perdida and 2-3 other major Tayrona sites in the area.

The immediate concern is to stabilize the platform structures most endangered by erosion and to ensure their long-term survival using appropriate conservation techniques. To that end, an ICANH conservation team led by Catalina Bateman has been clearing drainages and restoring walls and foundations since 2010.
