We are deeply saddened to report the passing of Dr Andrea Zerbini, Assistant Director of the Council for British Research in the Levant (CBRL) Institute in Amman, former CBRL Fellow in Amman, and a central member of the Endangered Archaeology in the Middle East and North Africa (EAMENA) project at Oxford University.

Dr Zerbini was a tireless advocate for the protection of cultural heritage and historic sites. As a brilliant young researcher, he brought enthusiasm and dedication to every project he joined. In addition to his many projects with CBRL and EAMENA, Dr Zerbini started the first Protecting the Past workshops in 2015, which developed into the ongoing annual international conference it is today. His unwavering energy and dedication will be sorely missed.

We extend our deepest condolences to Dr Zerbini’s family and friends.
