Cultural heritage is about more than protecting historic monuments. Our partnership in China with American Express is revitalizing traditional crafts and supporting sustainable travel that benefits local artisans in places like Dali Village, Guizhou.
Dr Kuanghan Li, director of our China Heritage Program, recently welcomed Rachel Zhou and Jiazhong Mei of AMEX Shanghai to Dali. They learned about Dali’s rich cultural history, met local conservation planners from Guiyang, and spoke with ethnic Dong craftswomen at the community center built by the GHF-AMEX partnership.
“The people of Dali are so hospitable,” Rachel says. “The historic Sa Altar, drum tower, and terraced paddy fields are all very inviting and unforgettable. I hope that the Dong women’s textiles can act as cultural ambassadors and bring more people to Dali Village.”
