Last week, Global Heritage Fund launched its first crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.com, an international funding website. The crowdfunding platform allows our donors and supporters to give as little as $10 and still make a difference to our project – currently it is the Carpathian Villages Preservation Project located in central Transylvania, Romania.

Kiln Instructor

The money being raised by this campaign will help build a traditional brick & tile making kiln in the village of Apoş, Romania. Run by Romanian expert Daniel Gecse, this kiln will provide much needed bricks and tiles for preservation and restoration while at the same time generating jobs and training opportunities for local villagers.

The buildings at the kiln site are progressing at an impressive pace! Eugen Valida, GHF Project Director, and his team are working daily to finish the on-site buildings and the roof to the drying shed is nearly finished. Craftsmen in Batanii-Mari, a neighboring village, have fired half of the bricks for the construction of the kiln, while our team in Apos will fire the other half on-site. The team has also found a lovely horse name Wilmos to work the mill at the kiln site. He is being well cared for and prepared for this important job.

We hope to have the first firing at the end of the summer when our Indiegogo donors will see their names carved into our bricks and tiles!
