SRI KSETRA Book

SRI KSETRA & Modern Pyay by Andrea Pistolesi is a book dedicated to the archaeological research of an Italian mission in a remote, yet traditional, region of Myanmar (Burma) which is a fascinating country lying between the huge cultural influences of the Far East and the Indian subcontinent. Sri Ksetra is one of the ancient sites that was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2014. The publication of this book was sponsored by Global Heritage Fund following a site visit by Founder Jeff Morgan.

The Pyu ancient culture is scarcely known when compared to other civilizations of Southeast Asia, but the surprises of its past grandeur are many. The Pyu thrived from 200 BCE to 900 CE, built massive Buddhist stupas and intricate irrigation systems. Long known for the massive sites of Pagan, the temples of Mandalay and the Colonial elegance of Yangon, Myanmar has preserved not only its past monuments but its local culture, which is still untouched by the sudden modernization that Myanmar has just started to experience.
