Support Ukraine’s Cultural Defenders

Donate Today to Support the Defenders of Ukraine’s Endangered Cultural Heritage

Global Heritage Fund is joining forces with Europa Nostra and its powerful pan-European civil society network on the ground to support the defenders of cultural heritage in Ukraine as well as those working in the cultural heritage world who have been rendered refugees in their escape from the war.

Together with other international and European partners, we are actively working to ensure that Ukraine’s history will not be erased or rewritten. This includes providing resources for people working in museums, sites, and cultural institutions.

Your generous donation will help Ukraine’s people stand firm in defense of their independent and sovereign country.

The war in Ukraine has brought unimaginable suffering to Ukraine’s citizens. As we witness, not only are lives at risk, but the history and heritage of Ukraine face unprecedented destruction.

The campaign aims to provide emergency help for people working in museums, sites and cultural institutions in Ukraine. These funds will provide emergency assistance to heritage custodians that have lost their livelihoods by trying to save endangered cultural treasures in Ukraine, specifically by providing subsistence for living costs.

Your donation will directly support these brave guardians of our shared history and humanity.

Ukraine’s history, heritage and collective memory face irreparable damage or destruction.

Now you can help them in just a few clicks. With your generous donation, you stand not only with Ukrainians, but also for this unique, millennia-old multi-cultural legacy that’s 44 million people strong.

We know too well that cultural heritage once destroyed is lost forever. Your donation will help prevent such a loss. We are grateful for your solidarity & generosity!

“We are all too familiar with ‘cultural destruction’ – the intentional annihilation of irreplaceable artwork, artifacts, historical sites and their stewards. This is often a desperate attempt to erase collective history and identity. The people of Ukraine are currently risking their lives to protect their cultural identity and safeguard the record of who they are. We MUST help them.”

Nada Hosking, Global Heritage Fund Executive Director

“Today, the rich and diverse heritage in Ukraine is THE most endangered heritage in the whole of Europe. We therefore need to stand in solidarity with heritage custodians in Ukraine. We call upon every organisation and individual from across the globe, who care for culture, heritage and history, to contribute to our crowd-funding initiative, jointly launched by Europa Nostra and Global Heritage Fund. Together we can make a difference.”

Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović, Secretary General of Europa Nostra

Together with Europa Nostra and its powerful pan-European network, Global Heritage Fund is working to respond to the crisis in Ukraine by raising funds to support those heritage custodians who have lost their livelihoods in defense of Ukraine’s cultural heritage, which is currently under attack.

For context, the average professional working in a museum, site or cultural institution in Ukraine makes about €200 per month.

This means that all donations, small and large, will have very real and meaningful effect on the daily lives of these defenders of cultural heritage.

Donating cryptocurrency directly to a 501(c)3 nonprofit is more tax efficient for you. The difference in your charitable deduction could be more than 30%.

That’s because the IRS classifies cryptocurrency as property for tax purposes, typically the most tax efficient way to support your favorite causes.

When donating crypto, you receive a tax deduction for the fair market value of the crypto, and you avoid the capital gains tax incurred if you had sold the crypto then made a donation. For once, the tax math couldn’t be simpler: Donate more to deduct more on your tax return!

To receive a tax receipt, be sure to enter your email address when making your donation.

Global Heritage Fund has dual qualification status in the US and the UK. Donations are fully tax deductible to the extent defined by the law for US citizens donating in USD to the Global Heritage Fund US-based entity.

US citizens (and other individuals subject to US income tax) who are a resident in the UK, may be subject to tax in either the US or the UK when they make contributions to charity unless the charity is dual qualified.

Citizens of the UK or the EU who donate to Global Heritage Fund’s UK entity can benefit from giftaid. Gift Aid increases the value of the kind donations you have already made, (and any you might make in the future). If you are a UK taxpayer, we can claim back the tax you’ve paid on your donations for the last four financial years.

Most people easily qualify for Gift Aid – for example: if you’ve donated £100 you would only need to have paid £25 in tax.
